That show scares me, no not frozen in fear, but kids are smart. My brain is not an encylopedia of facts or of new technology. I am one of those dreaded baby boomers at #39.
Are we smarter than a preschooler?
Sometimes little children act smarter than adults. Children can out wit, out run, out perform, and manipulate adults. They soak up knowledge and active listen even when you think they have tuned out. That info is not hidden in any text book! Why do you cringe at times as to what may come out of their mouths? Or in this case, what came out of a backpack?
I learn many things from young people. I knew teaching higher level math could get me in trouble! There is no sleeping on the job with children.
So, as adults we need to stay alert, on our toes, and focused. Maybe even wise up.
Do you know children will play good guy bad guy without ever watching a show. Sometimes the weapon of choice is a hand shaped like a gun. They don't even have to have seen a real gun. Parenting 101?
The following played out at a daycare this week. Kudos to the adult at the school who took action. Thankfully, she did not wait like they did at the school in Newport News. (see other posts). The gun did make it into the school though.

No one was physically hurt. But that incident should probably be in an educational record. The police are on the case. The family is no longer enrolled? That was fast.

Gee, what was I thinking in 1997-1998? It was definitely a stay focused year for me.

Will the adults be smart enough to listen? Then act?
They may, if they are smarter than the teachers and VP in Newport News, Va. The kids went to teachers who then waited for the clueless VP, who in my opinion, should never work with kids again. The teachers kept their jobs, except for the one who took a bullet. I question why they are teaching still because they were not smarter than first graders.
